Most of us think of cats, dogs, fish or birds when you say 'pet.'
Far from it. In my own lifetime I've had birds (mostly finches),
cats, dogs, fish, frogs, mice, guinea pigs, turtles, hermit crabs,
spiders, snakes, monkey (Dad's pet monkey), horses,
chickens, wolves, chipmunks and the occasional butterfly.
This is Jasmine. She's my sweetie. She's a full blooded
registered lab. I bought (and rescued her) about 7 years ago.
She was about 5 weeks old when I brought her home. She had
been mauled by the other dogs at the
breeders. When I took her to the
vet, he thought I had let another dog
do that to her and I had to tell him I
bought her that way. Vets don't like to
see abused animals any more than the
rest of us! She still has nightmares
from being a puppy. But now, she is
extremely well taken care of and
spoiled. She loves going to the lake for a swim and a walk in
the park. She's my best friend and a burglar's worst enemy.
We recently put in a small pool in the back yard. Jasmine
really loves to swim, but mostly I love it when she swims and
gets rid of the dog dandruff I'm allergic to. Less dog hair in the
house as well! She was easy to train to stay away from the
pool liner. James, our Lab-Boxer mix, is a very different story.
He's lovable, but also a dog-training school drop-out (or
flunkie). I'm not sure which one, but he's difficult to train, to
say the least. He loves water like Jasmine and BoBo (the 3rd
Lad, beautiful tan or yellow as they say, and he's at my Dad's
house keeping him company), but has a mind of his own. Kind
of like my husband! He wants what he wants when he wants it,
not when............
